12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics berlin 2009™
Excitement, top performances, emotion and a unique atmosphere
Berlin, Germany, and the world are already looking forward to the next outstanding sports event. With the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, the largest sports event of 2009 is coming to the German capital.
During the nine days of competition from August 15-23, the spectators will experience suspense and fascination, triumph and disappointment, victory and defeat, and most of all, fabulous entertainment. The best 1,800 athletes from the 213 IAAF member associations will fight it out for the gold, silver, and bronze medals in 47 exciting competitions.
In addition to the thrilling events taking place in the legendary Berlin Olympic Stadium with its fast, blue track, for the first time in the history of the World Championships, the marathon and walking events will not take place in the stadium, but rather in the heart of the city. Start and finish are at the Brandenburg Gate.
The 500,000 spectators in the stadium and more than one million fans along the marathon and walking course can look forward to much more than just “running, jumping, and throwing”: a supporting programme with extraordinary cultural events await them as well.
